Tonight on Disney+: This movie is considered one of animation’s greatest gems

In the heart of a small Italian village surrounded by clocks and wooden toys, the old sculptor Geppetto feels a little lonely, despite his cat Figaro and his fish Cleo. After putting the finishing touches to his latest creation – a little doll he christens Pinocchio – he expresses his cherished desire for the starry sky and hopes that the doll will turn into a real little boy.

At night, the blue fairy enters the small shop and fulfills Geppetto’s dream. Now gifted with life, Pinocchio will have to prove himself worthy of trust if he truly wants to become a “real little boy.” To make sure he stays on track, Feria entrusts him with Jiminy Cricket, an honest cricket, to be his conscience.

Despite a very poor box office performance (mainly due to the context, as the film was released at the beginning of World War II), Pinocchio is still considered by animation experts as a true technique and one of the greatest talents in the arms of the Disney studios.

Coming three years after Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Walt Disney’s second animated feature not only repeats the success of its predecessor, but once again pushes the boundaries of technology to offer audiences an amazing show.

A true model for famous animators such as Frank Thomas or Ollie Johnston, who describe it as “the most magnificent and complex Disney has ever created”, Pinocchio also offers an enchanted studio by singing its official anthem. The protagonist is as charming as Snow White, and a series of generally unforgettable characters – Pel-Mel, let’s mention the beautiful Geppetto, the emblematic Jiminy Cricket, as well as the priceless duo formed by Grand Cockin and Gideon – so Pinocchio adapts the famous tale of Carlo Collodi “the Disney way” , that is, he wears it in such a way that the general public completely forgets the original.

An absolute must for anyone who claims to be interested in animation, Disney Studios’ second film is also a true classic to discover with the family, though beware of two or three sittings if you’re accompanied by youngsters. Children (see below. ).

• The film’s songs are irresistible, like all the first Disney ones, and especially catchy Hello Diddle Dee Dee and without any link

• The strength of the original story, enhanced by Disney-style emotions and reflected in memorable sequences, such as when the caged Pinocchio learns the hard way that lies lead nowhere.

• Other villains of the movie. In addition to the funny Grand Cockin and Gideon, Pinocchio will also meet the cruel Stromboli and the terrible coach.

• Turning children into donkeys, towards the end of the film. A particularly successful series and therefore potentially traumatic for the youngest viewers
