Tire problems mark race 1, won by Thiago Camilo

Thiago Camilo, winner of stage 1 in Tarumã

Thiago Camilo managed to hold the lead at the start, maintaining the order of the top 6 in the first laps: after Camilo, Daniel Serra, Julio Campos, Felipe Fraga, Gabriel Casagrande and Cacá Bueno arrived. The first position change of this group occurred when Fraga passed Júlio entering lap three. Fraga continued to climb when he passed Daniel Serra a few laps later.

As soon as the box was opened many of the pointers went off to do their changes. Male Serra: his right rear tire deflated and he was forced to drag himself to the pits. Ricardo Zonta stayed on track past the leaders and briefly held the lead. Like Serra, the driver from Paraná suffered a flat tire as soon as he came out of the pits. Raphael Teixeira was the third to have the exact same problem, with the same tyre.

Ricardo Maurício, the last winner of Tarumã, in 2017, pitted, perhaps to save material for race 2. Ricardo Zonta and Daniel Serra, both without a chance in race 1, followed Maurício and collected their cars.

Thiago Camilo led the field without difficulty to cross the line for his 39th career victory. Felipe Fraga, Gabriel Casagrande, Cesar Ramos, Nelsinho Piquet, Rafael Suzuki, Denis Navarro, Júlio Campos, Cacá Bueno and Guilherme Salas finished close behind, completing the top 10. These 10 riders reversed their positions for the start of race 2.

Tumultuous first round. Lucas Foresti got away in turn 3 and went straight into the tire protection, in a very hard crash. Luckily the driver got out of the car without any problems. But the race was under a safety car until the car and debris were cleared. Negative note for the bad fixing of the tire barrier, which flew to the opposite side of the track.

The restart took place 19 minutes from the end. Júlio Campos, even with the door open, advanced on Cacá Bueno and took 2nd place. Wasting no time, the Lubrax pilot launched an attack on leader Guilherme Salas.

Also in the first moments after the restart, Denis Navarro called a drive through for a false start. Enzo Elias and Felipe Fraga lost performance and left.

In the central group, the famous “capping”: Júlio Campos, Sergio Gimenez, Bruno Baptista and company did not raise. There were touches everywhere, but surprisingly, no crashes or spins.

Rubens Barrichello, in race 2 strategy, was moving up the group and took advantage of a quick pit stop to gain even more positions. After the stops he was already 4th having started 19th. Salas, the virtual leader, lost pace and was overtaken by Cesar Ramos and Rubinho. Rubinho, inspired, activated the push and eliminated Cesar Ramos with 3 minutes to go, taking the lead of the match.

Átila Abreu, another bet on race 2, started 28th and reached 3rd place, closing the podium in race 2. Ricardo Zonta finished 4th, with Thiago Camilo 5th, best scorer of the weekend. Daniel Serra, Salas, Marcos Gomes, Zonta, Petecof and Rafa Suzuki completed the top 10.

Stock Car’s next stop will be in Cascavel on June 18th. Thiago Camilo leaves Rio Grande do Sul as championship leader.
