The renowned Spanish actress, Paz Vega, has made the leap to directing after an extensive career in the acting world. ‘Rita’, her debut feature, will follow the story of a young woman from Seville in the 80s.
After having attended this year’s edition of the Cannes Film Festival, the director and actress begins shooting her first film behind the scenes.
Introducing his tape, Vega stated the following: “With this project, I want to capture my vision of life from the direction and be able to tell a story that connects with the public through the eyes of a girl. I hope that ‘Rita’ is a movie that reach the hearts of all viewers because, although it takes place in a specific space-time, the initiation journey that we will see is universal”.
In ‘Rita’ we will move to June 1984. The protagonists of the plot are Rita and Lolo, two brothers aged 7 and 5 who live in a simple working-class family. Summer vacation has just started. The country is in full ecstasy for the football Eurocup, since the national team has passed to the quarterfinals. The heat is tightening and Rita dreams of going to the beach. However, her life in her neighborhood has other surprises in store for her.
The cast of the film is made up of Sofía Allepuz, Alejandro Escamilla, Paz Vega herself, Roberto Álamo, Daniel Navarro, Paz de Alarcón, Amada Santos and Margarita Asquerino.
Filming will take place entirely in Andalusia. The production of the footage is carried out by Aralan Films and Oda Films. In addition, the following will participate in the project: Canal Sur Radio y Televisión; the ICAA and the AAIICC, with financing from Triodos Bank and Crea SGR.
The premiere of ‘Rita’ is planned for 2024.
Paz Vega has been part of the cast of numerous films, both national and international.
