It’s a successful bet for Netflix with XO Kitty, a spin-off series from To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before that centers on Lara Jean’s (Lana Condor) little sister. It is currently one of the most viewed programs on the platform and offers very favorable reviews. In these 10 episodes, our heroine (Anna Cathcart) flies to Korea in hopes of learning more about her mother and meets her pen pal/friend, Des (Choi Min-yong).
If XO Kitty manages to free herself from the movies for All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, fans of Jenny Han’s books have only one regret: that Lara Jean and Peter didn’t appear in the series, where they are only mentioned. Still, it might have made sense: the movies highlight Song Kow’s sorority, and it was Kitty who played a pivotal role in Lara Jean’s love life. Remember, she is the one who decides to send the letters in the first part…
Jenny Hahn, who co-wrote XO Kitty, explained the choice in the interview :
“We all fell in love with Lara Jean and her story. The best gift I could give Kitty was to let her live her life without being in the shadow of her two sisters. And Lana and Noah were unavailable with their other projects.“.
Lana Condor and Noah Centineo aren’t the only ones missing from the spin-off, as even the actress who plays his other sister Margo (Janel Parrish) is nowhere to be seen, though her name is mentioned. The first episode of XO Kitty features only her father (John Corbett) and his wife (Sarayu Blue).
If Netflix decides to renew XO Kitty for a second season, there’s no telling us that university-bound Lara Jean and Peter won’t make a little surprise appearance…
