Double Vice is a new Netflix thriller that seems to have piqued the curiosity of subscribers. It’s no surprise when you see how popular thrillers are on the platform, especially when it comes to crime mysteries. There are twists left and right, everyone has secrets, and the plot is usually steamy. This Dutch film uses all the classic elements of a detective story.

The story follows two best friends, Bodil (Bracha van Doesburg) and Isabelle (Elyse Schaap), who usually go out together on weekends. But the reality is different because that is what they tell people around to have a solid alibi. What these attractive, affluent and seemingly happily married women do is something else entirely.

The two have a secret romance which they have cleverly hidden by various outings and cultural events planned and shared on their social networks. And thanks to their reliable plans and precise details that they provide to the rest of the world – and more specifically, to their spouses – they are never at odds with each other. However, when Isabelle disappears and a terrible trail of blood is left behind, Bodil finds himself trapped in her web of lies.

Double Vice likes to show that everyone is a liar. Some people lie for nothing, while others make up innocent little lies. Also, everyone seems to be unhappy with their current lives and choose to fly and cheat to get by.

Titled Faithfully Yours for the international version, Double Vice is not a Netflix Original in the strict sense. The film was first released in cinemas last December in the Netherlands. It also won the Golden Film Prize, which honors films that have received more than 100,000 admissions in the Netherlands.

On Netflix, the film ranks first in the top 10 international non-English language films, with more than 29 million hours watched in one week. Thus, it entered the top 10 of 77 countries, starting from the United States to Australia, even passing through Qatar, South Africa, Italy and Chile.

In France, Andre Van Duren’s film is in second place among the top films, behind Jennifer Lopez’s The Mother, which is also the best start of the year for a Netflix Original.
