Quentin Tarantino, has once again paid tribute to legendary actor Rick Dalton, the fictional star who starred in his film, ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.’ The filmmaker decided to talk about Dalton in a recent episode of his podcast Video Archives.
On May 19, through the Twitter account of Video Archives, film director announced that Rick Dalton, the last major Hollywood star he had directed, had passed away, writing: “We are saddened to announce the passing of actor Rick Dalton, best known for his roles on the hit television series ‘Bounty Law’ and the ‘Firefighter’ trilogy.“
In the podcast, also hosted by his ‘Pulp Fiction’ co-writer Roger Avary, Tarantino paid his respects to the late ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ character, aided by Avary’s daughter Gala, producer of the podcast.
“On May 19, 2023, actor Rick Dalton passed away at his home in Honolulu, Hawaii.“Gala commented. “He leaves behind his wife, Francesca. Dalton was beloved by fans of “Bounty Law,” where he played bounty hunter Jake Cahill for five seasons. And also for his iconic role as Eddie Karpinski, the flamethrower vigilante in ‘The Firefighter’, ‘The Firefighter Part 2’ and ‘The Firefighter 3: The Fall of the CIA’. Tarantino continued to refer to an iconic incident that Dalton had starred in life, as portrayed in ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’.
“Something also happened to him in the late ’60s: three hippies broke into his house, they were high and carrying a gun. His stunt double basically smashed two of them in the face. and Rick set the other one on fire with the flamethrower from ‘The 14 Fists of McCluskey‘” Tarantino explained.
“After this, they invited him to the Republican Convention, because he became something of a benchmark for ‘Nixon’s Silent Majority. He was a lifelong Democrat, but he went and got elected. Rick was very happy to be appreciated,” the filmmaker continued.
“Some time later, he was put on Johnny Carson’s show, ‘The Johnny Carson Show,’ and he had great success there. And all of a sudden, because of the notoriety, he started doing better TV shows and movies. He went from doing ‘Land of the Giants’ and ‘The Green Hornet’ to make ‘Mission Impossible’.”
