Featuring a live version of Rob Marshall’s The Little Mermaid this Wednesday, May 24, actress and singer Holly Bailey will join the cast of The Color Purple from January 2024, the trailer for which has just been released.
Directed by Blitz Bazawule, the feature film is a musical adaptation of Alice Walker’s novel about the struggles of an African American woman living in the South in the early 1900s. The literary work has already been adapted for the big screen in 1986 by Steven Spielberg.
Purple also earned Whoopi Goldberg a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama and an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.
This new version is again produced by Steven Spielberg, as well as Quincy Jones and Oprah Winfrey, who had already produced the 1986 film.
