Shonda Rhimes, creator of ‘Scandal’ and ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, suggests the possibility of bringing back Olivia Pope, the mythical character of Kerry Washington

‘Scandal’ creator Shonda Rhimes has hinted at the possibility of Kerry Washington’s fan-favorite character Olivia Pope returning.

The iconic political strategist starred in the seven seasons of the series between 2012 and 2018. And it showed potential to cross over to other series of shondaland, with an appearance in the fourth season of ‘How to Defend a Murderer’.

Talking with IMDb, Rhimes was asked about all the characters she has created, and who she would like to see appear in a present or future series of hers..

“Olivia Pope, I really like that character“, replied the producer. “Even when she was bad, I really liked that character: she’s very interesting”.

As the series came to a close five years ago, Rhimes reflected on Pope and his work with Washington over the years.

“It’s funny,” he told AND! News. “We were talking about something and I leaned over to her and said, ‘You have no idea how much I’ve learned from you.’ He looked at me like I was crazy.

“It’s interesting because we were so close that i’m not even sure i can list all the things i learned from her… I think I would still be a very introverted and shy person if it wasn’t for Kerry.

“It has helped me come out of my shell in many, many ways.“.

Washington, for his part, commented on the paper: “I think playing Olivia has taught me a lot about resilience and strength, about courage. I think her fearlessness has helped me face many adventures in life that I’m not sure I would have had otherwise.”

Shonda Rhimes is also responsible for another of the great phenomena of serial fiction of the moment: ‘The Bridgertons‘. Seasons 1 and 2 of the series can now be seen on Netflix, along with its spin-off, ‘Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story’.
