From presenting the BAFTAs to doing a casting for ‘James Bond’: this is how Rebel Wilson arrived at the tests of the 007 saga

Rebel Wilson has attended this year’s Cannes Film Festival to promote what will be her directorial debut: ‘The Deb’, a musical comedy to be shot in Australia this September.

In her time at the contest, the interpreter has taken the opportunity to reveal that she participated, last year, in a casting for the ‘James Bond’ franchise, the legendary British spy.

How did one of the protagonists of ‘Giving the Note’ get to the offices of Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson (producers of the 007 saga)?

After making a series of jokes about the Bond franchise at the gala, the actress wanted to get in touch with the creators and clarify her intentions after the ceremony. This direct approach was what led her to audition.

“The most amazing thing was getting an audition for Bond,” Wilson commented, emphasizing that the role he was opting for was not that of 007, but another from the film. The casting took place last year and the interpreter did not want to reveal information about the type of character she would have opted for, nor if she would have succeeded.

The next release in the secret agent franchise is still in the writing and development process. The mystery around who will play 007 in the next film is still up in the air. Over the past few months, several actors have been suggested for the role. However, no confirmation has come from the creators.

Talking with Variety Last year, Broccoli and Wilson commented that finding the new Bond “It’s not just a matter of choosing an actor, it has to do with reinventing the saga.”

On the BAFTA ceremony that he had to conduct, Wilson admitted that it had been one of the most complex tasks he had ever faced. (And not only for having openly criticized the British Royal Family, which also…)

“It is one of the most difficult jobs I have ever done. Two hours before they told me: ‘We are going to change everything’. So I had to go out there and figure it out. There was a lot of chaos at that gala. Some people did not come and the order of the program had to be changed.”

After this, Wilson continued: “I don’t think people understand it because when they see the ceremony they don’t imagine that, two hours before it started, half of what was there was discarded and we had to start over. She was literally in the dressing room of the Royal Albert Hall saying, ‘What do I write? What I write? I was lucky to have experience in theater with an audience.”
