Rita wanted to “go from this to the best”
After discovering the 20cm tumor in her left lung, Rita Lee thought she’d “have midnight tea to get better.” The singer was in favor of euthanasia.
It wasn’t covid or bronchitis
It was the normal reactions to the Covid vaccines in 2021 that led her to discover cancer. She felt as if she had “an elephant lying on the left side of her body”.

Rita says she would steal the “black streak” pills and sneak them into the hospital bathroom. And who spilled the beans after the tranquilizers were discovered and confiscated.

‘The drug they gave me was like powder, it let me talk to walls. He held the nurses by their uniforms and gave loud speeches about politicians and their crimes against the country,” he said.

Elza Soares commissioned a song for Rita, who composed “Rainha Africana” in 10 minutes. The demo recording of the track is probably the last recording of the red-haired diva’s voice.
Messages of love
Elza heard the song and responded with an “I love you, creature” audio. Rita says they both texted each other love before the end. And that the friend was strong after the diagnosis.
