Even makeup artists aren’t safe from AI; the video impresses

On the one hand, the galloping advance of generative AI (artificial intelligence) – ChatGPT technology, for example – brings tools that make “being creative” ever easier. On the other hand, creatively working professionals fear for their jobs. This time, the makeup artists have straight hair.

What you need to know:

That’s because the AI tools videos that went viral on social media this week show a workflow where you can change the makeup of people in the videos. The tools also let you change people’s clothes with one click.

Is the end of makeup artists near?

The film industry believes that manual jobs such as costume designers, set designers and make-up artists are safe from the advent of generative AI. Well, watch this video, which demonstrates how the AI-generated trick works, and think again:

Self-styled creative director of AI Freddy Chávez Olmos used different tools to create the video. These include Leonardo.Ai, an AI production suite for content creation, and EbSynth, which reshapes entire video clips by simply painting over a single frame.

He edited the existing footage of a commercial film, completely changing the composition of the actors in it. No complex equipment was needed. It will soon be easy to use in production environments as a TikTok beautifier filter.

Naturally, these are only short clips and show examples of make-up for horror images. Current technology may not be ready for full production and may not be profitable now. But eventually it will.

This shows where things are headed: a future where anyone can alter a person’s facial makeup, from a subtle morning look to Freddy Krueger style.

And the costume designers?

Also viral on social media was a clothing experiment using Runway’s Gen-2 video generator. It was led by a self-styled “AI/3D/Digital Artist/Screamer/Voice Actor/Twitch Streamer/Anime Fan/Animator/Dad” named Timmy. Look down:

According to his description, he found a composition he liked and used it as an idea, combined with several images of clothes. The result is what you see above: instant costume changes.

The user also warns that it will take some time to change the font and composition. But you can get an idea of where we’re going.
