Of course, you weren’t expecting a sequel to Frozen , the 2021 horror action movie starring Liam Neeson and Laurence Fishburne, but it’s already in the works, and Amazon Prime Video has now stepped in to distribute it! While the original film sold to Netflix for $18 million, as well as numerous international distributors, the second installment will be distributed by its direct competitor!

Through FilmStarts, Amazon Prime Video has acquired worldwide rights — excluding Germany — to Ice Road 2: Road To The Sky for an estimated $17 million, Deadline reports. This is a record amount at the Cannes film market this year, where traditionally many rights are traded. If it’s not quite finished, it’s still moving in that direction.

Meanwhile, Germany has entered into a separate multi-billion dollar pact with another buyer. However, the biggest deal to headline Cannes went to Netflix, which bought Todd Haynes’ May December for $11 million.

What is next?

In this sequel, still written and directed by Jonathan Hensley, screenwriter of A Day in Hell, Armageddon and Jumanji, Liam Neeson will return as Mike McCann, a seasoned truck driver who honors his late brother’s last wish by traveling to Nepal to scatter his ashes on Mount Everest. While on a crowded tour bus on the infamous “Road to the Sky” over treacherous terrain, McCann and his mountain guide encounter a group of Nepali mercenaries and must fight to save themselves, the innocent travelers, as well as the local villagers.

The film is expected to start production in the first quarter of 2024. Meanwhile, the first part is available on VOD.
