Who is Justin Triet?
Born on July 17, 1978, Justin Triet studied at the Beaux-Arts and directed his first short film in 2006: Sur place, depicting scenes of violence that took place in Paris in March of that year. It continues the documentary path with Solferino (two rows of the 2007 presidential election) and Shadows in the House, which focuses on a helpful young man, his mother and the pastor evangelist who takes care of them. .
The recognition begins with Naughty Girl, Bad Boy, a short feature film about a night experienced by a young artist and actor who won the prize for best European film at the Berlinale and the Grand Prix at the Premiers plans d’Angers festival in 2012. The following year, he returned to documentaries for La Bataille de Solférino, a feature film based on Solférino, and was selected for ACID at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival.
He’s back there in 2016 with Victoria, this time at Critics’ Week, a meeting between a young lawyer with a dirty case on his hands (Virgin Efira) and a small-time dealer he’s hired as an “au pair” (Vincent Lacoste). Triet finds an actress two years later for Sibyl, which was presented in competition at Cannes, but which leaves empty-handed.
The blessing comes in 2023, when his new project, Anatomy of the Fall (and the couple) wins the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. She then becomes the third woman to receive this prestigious award.
