In the umpteenth test for the coalition of the President of the Council of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, residents of various cities in the country return to the polls this Sunday (28) and Monday (29) for the second round of municipal elections.
The election provides for a regional capital – Ancona (Marcas) – and six other provincial capitals: Vicenza, Massa, Pisa, Siena, Terni and Brindisi. A total of 1.3 million people have the right to vote.
In Sicily, 128 cities go to the polls for the first electoral round, including the provincial capitals of Catania, Trapani and Syracuse. The same goes for Sardinia, where 171 municipalities are involved in the elections.
According to data from the Ministry of the Interior, 12% of voters had voted at noon, a number lower than that recorded in the first round (13.86%).
In Sardinia, the partial turnout is 17.17%, against 22.93% in the previous municipal elections. Sicily registers 12.55%, a lower number than in the last elections (16.94%).
In the first round of the municipal elections, held on 14 and 15 May, the right-wing coalition led by Meloni won four of the 13 provincial capitals up for grabs (Imperia, Latina, Sondrio and Treviso). The centre-left alliance won two (Brescia and Teramo). .
