From his first steps in cinema, in the late 1990s, Guillaume Canet changed the registers of his projects. He thus demonstrates the quality of his talent thanks to thrillers (Barracuda, The Beach), historical dramas (Merry Christmas, War of New Buttons), spy films (The Farewell Affair, Spies) as well as comedies (Narco, Les). Infidèles) or even romantic dramas (En plein coeur, La Fidélité, Jeux d’enfants, Ensemble, c’est tout, Last Night).
Popular with the general public, Guillaume Canet does not hesitate to spoil the image of the ideal son-in-law, for the first time in 2007 in the trial Darling, where he plays the abusive companion of Marina Foys. Then, in 2014, his features Maurice Agnelle, the prime suspect in the murder of a young woman whose body was never found, “a man we loved very much.”
The actor took his foray into thrillers even further that same year by playing serial killer Allen Lamar, better known to the general public as the ‘Oice Killer’. This policeman, an a priori model, actually ran rampant in this French department in 1978-1979, targeting young women.
According to the novel A killer without a doubt By investigative journalist Ivan Stefanovic, Next Time I Aim for the Heart supports this anti-hero as a true hero. As such, the film presents a meticulous and tortured portrait of a psychopath camped by a sober Guillaume Canet that will send shivers down your spine. It was especially compelling that his performance earned him a César nomination for Best Actor.
