Legendary director Martin Scorsese already knows what next film will be shot after the release of “Killers of the Flower Moon” in October 2023: he will subsequently produce a work about the life of Jesus Christ, and the script is even ready. ready.
At 80, Scorsese has already said he has no plans to stop working, and he recently met Pope Francis at an event attended by dozens of other artists, including poets, filmmakers and writers.
“I responded to the Pope’s appeal to artists in the only way I know how: by imagining and writing a screenplay about Jesus. And I’m about to start filming him,” said the director.
Scorsese is a Catholic and has produced works with Christian themes in the past. In the 1980s he directed “The Last Temptation of Christ,” a fictional work dealing with the temptations of Jesus Christ in life. At the time, the film even caused outrage from religious groups, which led the producers to warn before the film began that the work was not based on biblical texts.
More recently, the 2016 film “Silence” dealt with the persecution of Christian Jesuits in Japan during the 17th century.
Variety has contacted Scorsese’s agents to confirm whether the director’s next work will indeed be a film about Jesus Christ, but they have not responded.
“Killers of the Flower Moon” arrives in October
Before moving on to his next film, Scorsese is preparing to release “Killers of the Flower Moon”, a work produced in collaboration with Apple.
Based on the book of the same name, the film is about a series of murders that took place in the state of Oklahoma, in the United States, during the 1920s. The production features Leonadro DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Lily Gladstone, Jesse Plemons, Brendan Fraser and John Lithgow.
“Killers of the Flower Moon” will be released in US theaters on October 20. The forecast is that the work will be made available on digital streaming platforms – more specifically Apple TV + – about 30 days later, but the exact date has not yet been confirmed.
