Actor Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) may not be the only character from the X-Men movies to reprise his role in “Deadpool 3.” In addition to him, Halle Berry, Famke Jannsen and James Marsden are to interpret, respectively, Storm, Jean Gray and Cyclops.
Berry sparked speculation about her participation due to an Instagram photo where she appeared with platinum hair as a character. This fueled rumors, which the “Can We Get Some Toast” profile amplified on Twitter by claiming Jannsen and Marsden would also be in the film. It would be the return of the franchise’s first team of mutants, which originally belonged to 20th Century Fox.
There’s still no confirmation of any of these rumors, nor what impact the characters’ participation would have on the storyline, but fans are speculating the possibility that Deadpool (Ryan Reynalds) returns to that timeline, in possession of the device he took from Cable at the end of the second film, to ask for help from mutants and only get an answer from Wolverine. In this case, the characters wouldn’t have much relevance to the plot.
Josh Brolin’s Cable (“Avengers: Endgame”) and Zazie Beetz’s Domino (“Atlanta”) may also return, but nothing has been confirmed.
Rumors have long indicated that “Deadpool 3” will explore the multiverse more comprehensively than any Marvel Studios production in recent years. Preliminary information on the plot has already hinted that the mutants would be introduced for the first time in the MCU, which was already implied by the presence of Colossus and Teenage Megassonic Missile, members of the X-Men, among the confirmed characters.
The film has already begun shooting under the working title of ‘Tidal Wave’, but an official synopsis has not yet been revealed.
The franchise veteran cast will include the returning Karan Soni (“The Hated of Marriage”), Leslie Uggams (“My Dad’s a Bounty Hunter!”), Rob Delaney (“The Man Who Fell to Earth”), Shioli Kutsuna ( “Invasion”), Stefan Kapicic (“Dracula: Demeter’s Last Voyage”), Morena Baccarin (“Gotham”) and Brianna Hildebrand (“Rattlers”). Newcomers include Emma Corrin (“Lady Chatterley’s Lover”) and Matthew Macfadyen (“Sucession”).
Even Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, responsible for the scripts of the previous films, return to sign the story. Directed by Shawn Levy, who recently directed Reynolds in ‘Free Guy’ (2021) and ‘The Adam Project’ (2022).
The premiere is scheduled for November 7, 2024 in Brazil, one day before the United States.
