Season 2 of ‘Wednesday’ will delve into the Latino origins of Jenna Ortega’s character in the Netflix series

Jenna Ortega is one of the few Latina actresses currently starring in a hit television series.

The creators of ‘Wednesday’, the Netflix series that revolutionized the last stretch of the year and turned its protagonist Jenna Ortega into a worldwide phenomenon, have recently declared that season 2 of ‘Miércoles’ will delve into the character’s Latino heritage of the Addams Family.

In an interview with indiewirethe co-creators Miles Miller and Al Gough (because we remember that Tim Burton only played the role of director, and not of all the episodes) confirmed that season 2 will expand the Latino background of the character. Millar says he will look for more ways to explore Miércoles’ heritage, since his father Gómez is Latino, and the series will explore more about his childhood and origins.

“It is very rare to find an iconic character [latino] of this stature. We really try to find ways to [destacar eso] authentically. What would she listen to Wednesday when she was little? What would Gomez be playing? And finding moments where we could really make her feel like a kid who grew up in New Jersey with a Latino parent, and how would that resonate with her as a teenager? Certainly this season we’re looking at more ways to explore that.”

While few details have been released about ‘Wednesday’ season 2, new episodes likely won’t premiere until 2024. And that’s being optimistic, considering the delays caused by the Hollywood writers’ strike. However, it must be remembered that season 1 of ‘Miércoles’ launched Jenna Ortega to massive stardom, making her one of the few Latina actresses currently starring in a hit television series.

Season 2 of ‘Wednesday’ also has the opportunity to expand minority representation outside of the Latino community. Season 1 was criticized for its evil eye when it came to writing black characters, with the only two black actors in the series (Joy Sunday and Iman Marson) playing thugs. Many viewers of the Netflix series have also requested a romantic relationship between Wednesday and Enid (Emma Myers), which could also expand the LGTBIQ+ representation of the series.
