BNDES will adhere to self-regulation against deforestation in the meat chain, says Febraban


The development institute will adopt the protocols announced by the banking federation on Monday; the rules come into effect from 2025

OR National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES)which must join the Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban), will enter the the socio-environmental self-regulation announced by the institution on Monday 29. The federal development bank will also adopt risk management protocols for illegal deforestation in the chain of meat in Brazil.

The rule will be in force from 2025, and already has the adhesion of the major Brazilian banks, associated with the institution. “In this way, the BNDES, as the country’s most important development agency, will adhere to the socio-environmental self-regulation of Febraban, as well as adhere to the protocols for managing the risk of illegal deforestation in the country’s meat supply chain,” says the ‘entity in a note…



BNDES applied to join the entity this year and was approved by the entity’s governance. According to Febraban, right now, it is consolidating its membership in technical forums.

“The BNDES has important actions aimed at managing social, environmental and climate risk, including in the meat supply chain since 2009, as well as directing investments towards activities that have a positive impact on society and the environment,” adds Febraban, who adds that the adhesion of BNDES to the initiative will strengthen it towards the development of “an ever more inclusive and sustainable economy”.
