Legacy: ‘I wanted to throw myself in the river,’ this series star’s suicidal improvisation for the final episode

Please note, the following details are the plot of the latest episode of Succession, available on Warner Pass via Amazon Prime Video. If you haven’t seen it yet and don’t want to know anything about its content, I suggest you stop reading this article now.

A few weeks ago, before the start of the 4th season of Succession, Brian Cox repeated his criticism of his colleague Jeremy Strong, a follower of the game method, which consists in not leaving his character during filming.

In the past, the actors of the HBO series have already mentioned the work habits of the American comedian. The latter in particular refused to speak to them throughout the filming of the third season, as his character was then cold to his brother Roman (Kieran Culkin) and sister Shiv (Sarah Snook).

This immersive method is not without its dangers, and Jeremy Strong confirmed this during an interview Vanity Fair Beyond the broadcast of the last episode of the series. Kendall’s interpreter revealed that she came close to death by improvising her character’s suicide during the filming of the final plan that will feature her in this episode.

I was drawn to the water. At the end of the shoot, I wanted to throw myself into the river, I got up from the chair I was sitting on and went as fast as I could to the barrier, but the actor who plays Colin caught me.

this time final seriesKendall sees that stepping in to head the family business is one vote away from her. Betrayed by her own sister, the latter is shown in this final scene alone on a bench on the banks of the Hudson River, her gaze lost on the horizon.

His suicidal thoughts are only hinted at, but it was still enough for Jeremy Strong to attempt this completely insane improvisation. “I don’t know what happened to me or him, but he ran to stop me. I don’t know if at that point I thought Kendall wanted to die or someone close to me had to save me. Her father.”

Succession filming did not end on this scene, but on an earlier staged sequence of the episode in which Kendall is “crowned” by Roman and Shiv.

The appetizing concoction prepared by the latter was actually eaten by Jeremy Strong, who allowed his playing partners to shave his head once the final sequence was boxed.

All four seasons of Succession can now be viewed on Warner Pass, available on Amazon Prime Video.
