The third director (only!) to win the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, Justin Triet celebrated his fourth feature Anatomy of the Fall at the 76th edition. The hero of a powerful political speech during the award ceremony and the funniest sequence of the closing ceremony of the festival, Justin Trier is a French director whose name should be remembered.
You may have discovered his work with his second feature, Victoria, his biggest box office success to date with nearly 700,000 admissions in France. The drama, which stars Virginie Efira, Melville Pupo and Vincent Lacoste, won rave reviews at Cannes Critics’ Week ahead of its theatrical release.
But if you’re unfamiliar with Justin Triet’s work, good news, the france.tv platform will make the director’s first three feature films free starting this Friday, June 2. You will be able to (re)discover Victoria, but also two of his other films.
On the one hand, his first feature La Bataille de Solferino, presented in 2013 in the ACID selection at the Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for the César for the best first film. This political comedy, which has already sketched out the promising contours of a perfect decoding of couples in crisis, reunited Vincent McCain and Letitia Dosh.
On the flip side, we find Sybil, Justin Triet’s third feature about a psychotherapist who becomes obsessed with one of his actress patients. In 2019, the director will be discovered for this film, presented in competition at the Cannes Film Festival Virgin airs and brings together a prestigious cast: Adele Exarchopoulos, Gaspar Ulliel, Niels Schneider, Laure Kalamis and Sandra Huller, who is currently the lead actress of Anatomy of a Fall.
Awarded the Palme d’Or by Ruben Östlund and his jury, Anatomy of Autumn is a thriller that follows the trial of a woman accused of murdering her husband a year earlier. His visually impaired young son attends the instruction, a true dissection of the couple formed by the parents before the tragedy.
Co-written by Justin Triet and Arthur Harrar, Anatomy of the Fall stars German actresses Sandra Hüller, Swan Arlod and a young Milo Machada Graner. This pilot film has the peculiarity that it also won the Palme d’Or, which was awarded to border collie Messi, who was appreciated for his role as Snoopy in the film.
Anatomy of the Fall will be released in theaters on August 23.
