Will Whitney said on social media that the country “doesn’t deserve live music” and said he “can’t wait to go home”. Hours later, he apologized in a new post.
Will Whitneywho is part of the technical team of Wool Del Rey, says his cell phone was stolen while crossing the country. In his post on social media, in addition to reporting the theft, the sound engineer cursed the Brazilians.
In a May 28 Instagram post, Will Whitney wrote:
“I just had my phone stolen from my hands by a piece of shit on a motorcycle. Fuck this whole country. They don’t deserve live music. I can’t wait to get home.” She even used the hashtags ‘Fuck Brazil’, ‘human trash’ and ‘shit hole’ in the post.”

Despite closing the post for comment, Brazilian internet users flooded Whitney’s other publications, criticizing him for the message and accusing him of xenophobia. Earlier this Wednesday afternoon (31st), he deleted the post and hours later, the sound engineer created a new post, in which he said he wrote “full of emotions” and apologized to the Brazilians.
“I know it could have happened anywhere and to generalize about any person or place is usually unfair to most. I should have known better. I have been to Brazil many times with many different artists and always had a great time”.
This Saturday (3), Lana Del Rey will perform in São Paulo, also at the MITA festival.
