This Friday, June 2, Arte will air the TV movie Le Horla from 8:55 p.m. Here we follow the story of Damien and Nadia, in their thirties, who leave Paris with their 8-year-old daughter Chloe. A graphic designer for an event company, Damien is negotiating full-time telecommuting to follow his partner, who recently accepted a position at Recherche Rivière.
is damien going crazy
Set in a modern building on the banks of the Cheri, the couple begins a new life. During the first few days of their installation, Damien, concentrating in front of his computer, is interrupted by a noise that seems to move through the walls. This noisy pollution is increasing and he can no longer work or sleep. Are the neighbors just noisy? Is the apartment trash?
No one around Damien seems to perceive this disturbing presence, and Nadia, although she loves him, tries to understand the attitude of her companion. One evening, he discovers that his neighbor is engaged in mysterious rituals…
In the casting, viewers find Bastien Bouillon (Damien), César winner for Best Young Male Hope for La Nuit du 12, as well as Muna Sualem (Nadia), Milla Harbusch (Chloe), Alix Blumberg, Diet Fleurmont (Anais Pellerin), Judith Zins (Marion), Guillaume Pottier (Joseph), Miglen Mirchev (Bernier) and Philippe du Jeanneran (Mr. Attal).
Adapted by Guy de Maupassant
Based on Guy de Maupassant’s Le Horla, this project was written by Olivier Fox and Olivier de Place. The director is Marion Desine-Ravel. Here, the filmmaker brings the great French writer’s story up to the present day, observing the mental blockage caused by years of Covid.
In the official press release, Arte explains:This adaptation navigates the tumultuous waters of a loss of reality that insidiously creeps onto the screen (…) Marion Desine’ Ravel revisits the Freudian notion of the “disturbing uncanny” amid our recent upheavals. A staging conceived like a dizzying puzzle that is ready to fall apart.”
Le Horla is now on arte.tv until September 18, 2023.
