We already knew it was coming next August, but the Ahsoka Tano series finally has an official release date on Disney+. The platform will indeed release its new Star Wars series on August 23, with one episode per week.
Both a spin-off from The Mandalorian and a sequel to the animated series The Clone Wars, Ahsoka Tano features Anakin Skywalker’s former Padawan, now suspended from the Jedi Order. Played by Rosario Dawson, the latter embarks on this new adventure following in the footsteps of Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfand) from the cartoon Star Wars: Rebels.
The series will also feature other iconic Rebels characters like Sabine Rennie (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and not to forget Grand Admiral Thrawn played by Lars Mikkelsen. Also note the presence of the late Ray Stevenson in the show’s casting.
Star Wars: Ahsoka will take place in the Mandalorian continuity, but it’s already been confirmed that some episodes will go back in time with flashbacks. Thus, we know that Hayden Christensen will appear for one or more scenes as Anakin Skywalker (using digital rejuvenation techniques, like his cameo in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series).
All eight episodes of the series were written by Dave Filoni, who is considered by many fans to be the rightful heir to George Lucas. The Star Wars creator also visited his protégé during the filming of The Mandalorian’s first season to help him with his first experience as a live-action director.
You can watch all eight episodes of Star Wars: Ahsoka beginning August 23, exclusively on Disney+.
