‘It’s just bullshit’: ChatGPT tried to write an episode of Black Mirror and the show’s creator isn’t convinced

We didn’t expect it at all, and at least the Black Mirror series is back! Four years after its fifth season, the Charlie Brooker series returns for a sixth set of episodes on Netflix.

The dark and satirical anthology series reinvents itself and continues to polish away technology to reveal its excesses in a dystopian world that we sometimes come dangerously close to.

Since the release of Black Mirror on the UK channel 4 in 2011, the world of technology has evolved and some ChatGPT has appeared on the Internet.

ChatGPT (Generative Pre-Trained Transformer) developed by OpenAI is a prototype conversational agent using artificial intelligence that can generate answers to questions, translate texts, write articles and hold meetings, conversations with people.

If this tool seems revolutionary, it raises many questions about the development of artificial intelligence and its use. A dangerous toy that will definitely interest Charlie Brooker, the creator of Black Mirror.

ChatGPT and Black Mirror do not match

And don’t miss it, as Charlie Brooker reveals Empire that he had “Already experienced ChatGPT” Writing an episode of Black Mirror. But the result was not really convincing according to him:

“The first thing I did was type in ‘generate Black Mirror episode’ and I came up with something that reads plausible at first glance, but at second glance is just plain stupid. Black Mirror episodes and kind of mash them up.”

Then, if you rack your brain a little more, you’ll realize that the original thought really doesn’t exist. It’s Mike Yearwood, there’s a hot topic or reference every time.”

But Charlie Brooker freely admits that his trial with ChatGPT opened his eyes to a few things. He explains that the Black Mirror episodes written by ChatGPT are wrong not about the technology presented, but about the use of people. A typical ChatGPT “moral” explained what not to do with a given technology in the future.

And the creator of Black Mirror realized that he should not relax and fall into intellectual laziness with his series: “I knew I wrote a lot of episodes where somebody was like, ‘Oh, but I was on the computer all the time.'”.

Charlie Brooker then decided to break away from everything that defines an episode of Black Mirror and break away from preconceived ideas and established concepts to write the series’ sixth season.

“There’s no point in an anthology series if you can’t break your own rules. This experience was kind of a nice glass of cold water to the face.”he concluded.

This new season of Black Mirror has been announced as the most unpredictable and unexpected of the series. It contains 5 episodes called “Joan the Terrible”, “Loch Henry”, “My Heart for Life”, “Mazey Day” and “Demon 79”.

The cast of this new season, available June 15 on the platform, includes Aaron Paul, Salma Hayek, Josh Hartnett, Kate Mara, Zazie Beetz (Joker), Annie Murphy (Shit Creek), Clara Rugard (I Am Mother), Paapa Esiedu (I Can Destroy You ), Anjana Vasana (Killing Eve), Sam Blenkin (Witcher: Blood Origin) and Mihala Herold (Industry).
