Bradley Cooper has changed beyond recognition for a new role

Bradley Cooper, 47, who made his off-screen debut in 2018’s A Star Is Born, is back in the director’s chair, this time in the Netflix biopic The Maestro, about the life of acclaimed West Side Story conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein. In addition, Cooper will play the main role of the elderly maestro. Judging by the behind-the-scenes pictures that appeared on the network, in order to get used to the character, the actor had to resort to makeup and change beyond recognition.

In January, Cooper admitted in a dialogue with Variety that he himself dreamed of becoming a conductor as a child, so he was literally obsessed with this project. Initially, the director of the picture was supposed to be the legendary Steven Spielberg, but gave this place to Cooper.

Steven Spielberg was aware of my obsession with conducting,” Cooper said. “He had an idea for a biopic and talked to me about a potential role in it. And I just worked on A Star Is Born and I said, “Look, all I want to do is write scripts and make films. I could play a conductor, but can I study the material and see if I can rewrite it? and direct? Will you let me do it?”. He was kind enough to pass this project on to me. And now, after almost four years of work, we start filming in May.

Scott Stuber, head of original films at Netflix, shared details of the filming process last December, including Cooper’s make-up, which turned him into a character decades older than himself.

We did a lot of work on the makeup. We have done a lot of work on the voice. I’m glad to see someone who is so deeply immersed in creating a story that means so much to him,” Stuber said.

The premiere of the film “Maestro” is scheduled for 2023. Along with Cooper, the film also stars Carey Mulligan as Bernstein’s wife, Matt Bomer and Maya Hawke. The film’s producers include Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese.

Note that a week ago, Cooper’s former lover, model Irina Shayk, for the first time after breaking up, shared a joint photo with the actor. They crossed paths at this year’s Met Gala, but they weren’t seen together on the red carpet, but they enjoyed talking during the festive banquet.
