Elizabeth, Regard (s) Singulier (s): Documentary to Celebrate the Queen of England’s Anniversary

Roger Michel’s documentary “Elizabeth, Regard (s) Singulier (s) is coming out in cinemas today. This portrait of the Queen of England offers a unique look to her reign of unparalleled length.

The last film of the late director Roger Michel (died September 22, 2021), Elizabeth, Regard (s) Singular (s) will be released this Thursday, June 2, in cinemas in connection with the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.

While the 70th anniversary of the monarch’s reign will be celebrated in the UK from 2 to 6 June, the documentary offers a unique view of its unparalleled length of reign, which deeply delves into the history of the XX and XXI centuries.

Elizabeth, Regard (s) Singulier (s) is a unique and modern cinematic portrait of an extraordinary queen, but also a shocking, evil and inaccessible woman.

The film combines archival images, the Queen’s speeches, interviews, and recalls defining moments in history with Her Majesty in the Queen’s prism.

Director Roger Michelle, to whom we owe Notting Hill, Dérapages incontrol, Royal Weekend, or most recently The Duke, has written a recording for his film in which he explains what he wanted to do.

Using archives, we painted various portraits of a woman and the icon she became: we have been ordering for decades, accompanied by music and a bit of social history. And what a social history! (…)

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip

Each archive, with its grains and colors, from the 1930s to 2020, looks like a tiny time capsule. The queen grows up, takes a hundred bouquets … a thousand handshakes … as the world around her changes … besides her.. “

The filmmaker continues to talk about his interest in this queen, who has become an icon.

This British monarch is the only head of state who has lived and ruled the world for so long. He’s much more than that. It is embedded in our subconscious and in our collective imagination.

She is the most famous female face in world history. (…) Like the Mona Lisa, she is instantly recognizable and at the same time inaccessible and mysterious. ”
