This Sunday, Uruguay entered the group of Under-20 World Champions. A goal 40 minutes into the second half, scored by Luciano Rodrigues, gave the Uruguayans the first title in the history of the category. The match took place at the Estadio Diego Armando Maradona in La Plata, Argentina. And the meager score of 1 to 0 was enough to stamp the conquest.
The first Uruguayan conquest finally arrived after two runners-up. In 1997 and 2013 the country hit the beam.
First half: Uruguay better
Uruguay was better throughout the first half. Thus, both in the tactical and technical part and in the physical imposition, the South Americans surpassed the Italians. The goal came close on two occasions: Fabricio Diaz hit the post with a shot from outside the area and Anderson Duarte forced a miraculous save from a header by the Italian goalkeeper.
Second time:
Uruguayan momentum cooled in the second stage. However, even so, the South American outfit continued to dominate the action. When, finally, everything seemed to be moving towards an extension, the title goal arrived. After a rebound in the area, Luciano Rodriguez sends him to the back of the net and enters the history of Uruguayan football.
