With a heat of 30ºC, this Sunday Avenida Paulista brought together 11 people of the most diverse types and flags in the 27th edition of the São Paulo LGBT+ Parade. The songs were interspersed with vindictive verses and demonstrated the essence of the event: the mix of political bias and celebration of pride.

Luciene Neves, 51 years old, lesbian
“I am a lesbian and I am here to represent my state, which is Mato Grosso. I think that when we talk about public policies, we are talking about the right to a dignified, safe and educational life. Furthermore, I think our community needs more jobs, especially of people more vulnerable to violence and vulnerability, such as trans people”.

Brune Stone, 25, non-binary and pansexual
“First, as a non-binary person, I hope that we, trans people, respect our names and pronouns and grant access to name rectification. After four years of a government denying the existence of LGBT people, be on the street today is very symbolic for the movement, what I hope most is that the current government is together with us in the construction of public policies for everyone, everyone and everyone”.

Josias, 58 years old, bisexual
“What I most hope for the LGBT+ community is better access to health. That people have a better condition to take care of themselves, prevent and carry out examinations and tests. As an older person, I experienced a period in which the AIDS was treated as a taboo. Despite the time that has passed, I believe that public power needs to strengthen awareness-raising discourses, especially to reach our young people”.

Marcos Almeida, 24, homosexual
“At the moment, I think the most urgent thing for the LGBT+ community is equal employment opportunities, both in terms of gender and sexuality. Having diversity of bodies and desires in all environments is essential, not only for people, but also for the labor market itself. In addition, access to free, quality public education and also to culture”.

Isis, 36 years old, bisexual woman
“I’m doing a PhD in a program called ProMuSPP, which is for social change and political participation at USP Leste, for the line of research in the arts. There’s a battle even within those spaces that claim to be progressives. arguing, inside or outside the academy, we’re here to take up space and say we have a voice.”
