Have no idea which movies to pick up on Netflix and love that feeling of danger, anguish and butterflies in your stomach? So let’s help with suggestions for popular titles on the platform for fans of the thriller genre. Many people are interested in this category, mainly because it can be accompanied by doses of terror, action, police plots, fictional or based on real facts. Without further suspense, we’ve handpicked 5 movies on Netflix to stir your emotional state.
Luther: Night falls
The feature film looks like a great action thriller and sees the presence of Idris Elba, in the role of ex-detective John Luther, and Andy Serkis in the role of serial killer David Robey.
The cop escapes from prison to catch the killer who has involved him in his murderous plot. Andy Serkis brings the villain to life and finding out the motive behind the brutal murders planned and carried out by the villain grabs the attention of the viewer.
The 2023 film takes up the story of the investigator as a continuation of the series produced by the British broadcaster BBC, between 2010 and 2019 (not available in Brazil on all streaming services). Jamie Payne is directing the production and also directed the fifth season of the series. Neil Cross is the creator of the original series, as well as penning the script.
Mr. Harrigan Phone

Original Netflix production, the feature is based on King’s 2020 compilation If It Bleeds, by Stephen King, and directed by John Lee Hancock.
Teenager Craig (Jaeden Martell) is bullied in high school and doesn’t have an easy life. He befriends an elderly billionaire and loner, Mr. Harrigan (Donald Sutherland) and visits him often. One day, Craig buys a state-of-the-art smartphone for his friend. However, days later Harrigan dies suddenly and is buried with his cell phone in his pocket. To console himself, Craig sends messages to the dead man’s mailbox, which he answers on the other end. From there, a trail of death and vengeance spreads across the city.
Two coincidences could catch the attention of King fans: Jaeden Martell starred in another adaptation of a book by the author, It: A Coisa (2017). And readers of his latest novel, Fairy Tale, will likely get a sense of déjà vu, as that book is also about a young boy who loses his mother and works for an elderly stranger. The air of suspense is the same, but the stories are very different.
The night nurse

The suspense film on Netflix is an adaptation of the book of the same name and tells the true story of nurse Charlie Cullen, who is accused of murdering her patients. The death of a hospitalized patient makes the police suspect negligence. However, the investigations point out that she was the victim of a murder. Police suspect Charlie Cullen (Eddie Redmayne), a nurse who has just arrived at that hospital, but who left behind a history of several unexplained deaths at her former workplace.
The script highlights the victims and another hospital nurse, Jessica Chastain’s character, who helps unravel the case. The Night Nurse portrays real cases that occurred in New Jersey (USA) and came to light in 2003. It is estimated that in 16 years as a nurse, Cullen killed about 400 patients.
correctness

One of the highlights of the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, Fair Play is an authentic thriller. The story chronicles the life of newlywed couple Emily and Luke, with Phoebe Dynevor and Alden Ehrenreich. The beginning is in a fairytale atmosphere, however the plot suddenly turns after Emily is promoted before her husband Luke. The fact causes consequences never imagined for the life of the two. The film features a web of mystery, but also with doses of eroticism and intrigue, which takes the couple to the limits of ambition and power.
The direction and screenplay are signed by director Chloe Domont, famous for directing short films and also episodes of series such as Billions, Suits and Ballers.
Yara

Another drama based on a true story, the suspense film available on Netflix takes up the case of the murder of Yara Gambirasio, a 13-year-old girl, which shocked a small Italian town. Prosecutor Letizia Ruggeri (Isabella Ragonese) has only a little DNA of the young woman’s killer and a database that doesn’t help her much in discovering her culprit.
Crime Stopped Italy in 2010 and also made the film one of Netflix’s hits. Just as it happened in fact, the film chronicles the long search for Yara’s killer and the collection of over 22,000 genetic samples.
In the cast Alessio Boni, Thomas Trabacchi, as well as Sandra Toffolatti and Mario Pirrello, in the role of the girl’s parents, while Yara is played by Chiara Bono. The Netflix film was produced by Taodue and RTI, while Marco Tullio Giordana is directing and Graziano Diana is writing the screenplay.
