Singer, who has completed the first phase of treatment for bowel cancerjoined his father, Gilberto Gil, brothers and nephews at the first concert of the “Nós A Gente” tour in Brazil. The family sold out of tickets at a concert hall in west Rio de Janeiro.
Applauded by the audience and celebrated by her family, Preta couldn’t hold back her tears in the middle of the show. During a tribute to her godmother, Gal Costa, who died in November last year, the artist gave vent and strengthened his desire for healing. “I’m black, I’m fat, I’m bisexual, I’m curing cancer and I’m going to win. It was Preta who came up with the idea to do this tour, which also resulted in two documentaries on Prime Video, with unprecedented immersion into the daily life of the Gil family during rehearsals and travels for the series of performances.

Backstage at the show, Gilberto gave an interview to UOL’s Splash and celebrated the return of the tour with the presence of Preta, who have received clearance from doctors to join the family on stage.
“It’s good to be back home with the boys and with Preta. She’s taking care of herself, she’s strong, active and singing. She even joked: ‘I still can sing’. Today she will sing for us,” confessed the great Pope. However, she does not hide her concern at seeing her daughter at work. “It’s still time for her to think about healing, her career comes after her. It’s up to us to have the slightest confidence that she will recover and be fine,” said the artist.
In addition to Preta, Gil takes the stage with his sons Bem, José and Nara, daughter-in-law Mariá, grandchildren Francisco, Pedro, Gabriel, Lucas, Bento, João and Flor and great-granddaughter Sol de Maria. The family will be on display in Rio de Janeiro until Sunday (18th) and will be performing in several Brazilian capitals over the next few weeks. São Paulo and Belo Horizonte will also host the tour.
