Bridgestone x Pirelli: we will fight for F1 tyres

According to the BBC, Bridgestone would have decided to enter by force to take Pirelli’s place as F1 supplier. The FIA will announce soon

A few days ago we wrote that the Japanese Bridgestone is considering participating in the competition for the supply of tires for F1 (and related access categories) for the period 2025/2027. The FIA does not provide many details of the process, but apparently we will have a dispute…

The first to confirm interest was the current supplier, Pirelli. Despite all the discussions on the tire situation for the show, the company is very satisfied with the feedback given and, for this reason, wants to continue. F1 is not unhappy as, in addition to the tyres, it also receives an estimated $40 million a year for the promotion.

However, Andrew Benson, editor-in-chief of F1 at the BBC, brings information that Bridgestone has indeed submitted a proposal to participate in the choice of supplier. Remembering that, once chosen, the club has the responsibility to serve all the teams.

He says the Japanese, who have been in F1 between 1997 and 2010, would be persuaded to return to the category mainly by the growing visibility in the United States. Bridgestone currently supplies IndyCar tires through Firestone.

In its favor, Bridgestone is said to have presented a “robust and bold” proposal to the FIA to take over the venture. It remains to be seen whether the Japanese will accept the faster-wearing attitude. This was one of the reasons that kept the brand away from the last competition, where Pirelli overtook Hankook to meet the three-year period 2020/2024.

We should have news in the next few days. Bearing in mind that whoever takes on this contract will have to develop the tires for the new generation of F1, scheduled for 2026, as well as the new F2 car promised for 2025.
