Discovered in France in 2012 at Arte. Borgen, a woman in power, was immediately formed in the White House of Europe. By exploring the functioning of European democracy and encouraging a female prime minister, Adam Price’s series made politics interesting.
Nearly ten years later, the series returns to Netflix as Borgen: Power and Glory. Birgit Nyborg (Sidse Babett Knudsen), who became Denmark’s first female Prime Minister in her first season, is now Foreign Minister. He is battling the potentially explosive political consequences of oil discovery in Greenland, Denmark.
“Angrily arguing that Denmark can not do business with a drilling company whose investors include a Russian oligarch, he cites the fact that”Russia has international sanctions for attacking UkraineIt looks like the scene was only filmed a few weeks ago, but Adam Price is actually referring to the annexation of Crimea in 2014.
This growing narrative arc serves as the author’s prediction of the political news of the moment. This is part of what made Borgen the best political TV series of 2010.

Johann Louise Schmidt (Prime Minister Cine Craig) and Sidse Babett Knudsen (Birgit Nyborg)
Borgen stands out from other series in the genre by creating the perfect balance. Birigit is an idealist, but also a realist and uncompromising politician. The story of the series skillfully combines personal dilemmas and political deception, with feminist and media themes. At its center we find Birgit – the human woman we can identify with but a true political genius – and the theme of power (and its perversion).
Today, after almost 10 years of absence, Birigit is the Minister of Foreign Affairs, he is still dealing with the Prime Minister of the opposing party, a woman ten years younger than him. This Prime Minister is very present on social networks, posts photos on Instagram with the hashtag #TheFutureIsFemale and sets up a public relations scheme to turn Birigit into a false illusion of siblings.
Behind the scenes two women are fierce rivals, constantly fighting and trying to use each other for personal gain. And when oil is discovered in Greenland, Birgitt faces an ethical dilemma. He campaigned for a green agenda and opposed drilling for fossil fuels. But the operation of the site will bring in more than 185 billion euros in revenue, much of which will go to Denmark. The Prime Minister is in favor of this for economic reasons.

Birgit Heurt Sorensen as Katrina Fonsmark
As for journalist Katrina Fonsmark (Birgitte Hjort Sørensen), she has also returned and now heads the news on TV1, the country’s former First Channel. Once again, Adam Price explores the topic of women and power with intelligence and pragmatism.
According to Zeitgeist, this season focuses on climate change and international relations. In real life, Greenland ice is melting faster than scientists have suggested. And the Arctic is geopolitically crucial where the United States, Russia and China are trying to assert their influence there. Birgit then finds himself in the middle of the ring, where the big states are fighting to gain their share.
The series seems more relevant than ever, directly fighting the political and environmental urgency of the moment.
