During the Tudum conference in Sao Paulo, streaming platform Netflix unveiled the cast of actors joining Lee Jong Jae for the second season of “The Squid Game”. Jung Jae will return as Gi Hoon, the winner of the games of the first part. Hwang Dong Hyuk will once again be the director and executive producer of the project. Production will start at the end of this year.
Lee Byung Hun will return as the frontman, Wi Ha Joon will reprise his role as police detective Jun Ho, and Gong Yoo is also expected to return. New members include Im Si Wan, Kang Ha Neul, Park Sung Hoon, and Yang Dong Geun.
The Squid Game debuted on Netflix on September 17, 2021. The project has become a global phenomenon and has gained more than 1.65 billion hours of viewing in 28 days. The show reached 111 million accounts, becoming the first Netflix series to surpass 100 million users at launch. At the moment, it remains the most watched series in the history of Netflix.
During Tudum, Netflix also premiered Squid Game Challenge. This is a competitive show inspired by the series. The competition will feature 456 players who will compete for a cash prize of $4.56 million. This is the biggest prize for a reality TV series.
Recall that last year, 78-year-old actor Oh Yeon-soo from “The Squid Game” was charged with sexual harassment. According to the victim, the actor molested her back in 2017. She dared to apply to the prosecutor’s office only four years later, in 2021. Then the case was closed for lack of evidence, but now it has been resumed at the request of the plaintiff.
