Former So You Think You Can Dance Judge Matthew Morrison Responds to Allegations of Inappropriate Behavior Following Fox Show Firing

Happiness Alum Matthew Morrison made what could have been his triumphant return to Fox as one of the judges So you think you can dance , who is back with season 17 after a long hiatus. Allegations about the reason for his dismissal began spreading on the internet this week after being initially reported on May 31. So, for the sake of transparency, I’m going to read you the only message I’ve ever written to a dancer on the show: ‘Hi, I’m Matthew. If you don’t mind, I’d like to have your number and talk to you about a few things. The end. It is devastating to live in this world where the rules of gossip and people’s lives are tossed around like a clickbait. I think it’s much bigger than me and this story. Gossip is toxic and destroys our society and we need to do better. I don’t want this to detract from the show in any way as dance has always been a unifying and healing modality, and I sincerely wish the best to all contestants and my fellow judges.

Morrison’s concluding comment about wishing the contestants and fellow judges the best echoes his opening statement, in which he said he “will watch with all of you in what I know will be one of the best seasons to date.” At the time, Us Weekly quoted an unnamed source as saying that a “minor misdemeanor” resulted in Morrison’s departure.
