Quentin Tarantino, the iconic director of Pulp Fiction, The Hateful 8 or Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, will soon retire the camera. Last March, the filmmaker finally announced the title of his final project: Film Critic.
When he arrived at the Grand Rex on March 29 for a masterclass, the director talked about what will be his 10th and final feature film and dismissed some rumours:
“It’s crazy all these articles coming out speculating about what the movie will be like from scratch. It’s going to be called Film Critic, though. That it’s going to be in the late 70s, 1977. To be more specific.”she said.
“But there won’t be a movie about a woman film critic, and it won’t be a biopic about Pauline Keel. Not at all. I’m not saying there won’t be a movie about her, maybe even better. Mine. But it won’t be about her.”he confided.
Tarantino, an insatiable cinephile, recently gave an interview release. In it, he talks about the reasons that led to the radical decision to hang up the gloves.
“The main thing is that I gave 30 years of my life to cinema. I loved every moment, but I gave it my all. I worked at the top of my game and I want to leave the main body behind. I want to retire undefeated”The director of Reservoir Dogs explained.
I’ve been working at the top of my game and want to leave mainstream work behind. I want to retire undefeated.
“The funniest thing is this little music behind it: ‘Hollywood can give up on you, but you can’t give up on Hollywood.’ They can stop giving you work, it happens all the time, but never try to leave on your own terms. But that’s what I do. I’m leaving on my own terms.”he added.
Once his latest film work is complete, the Knoxville native wants to focus on writing novels. “Another appeal of this decision to focus on the books is that once I’m done, it’s done. Whereas with a screenplay, you work and work and work and when it’s done, it really starts!”He justifies.
The director specifies that he still loves shooting, that he still enjoys it. however, “Writing has a great advantage: when it’s all on the page, it’s over.” Tarantino continued.
I said that I would not make any more motion pictures. But will there still be motion pictures in seven to eight years? The question remains open.
“I don’t regret anything today. But ask me again in a few years… and if I did, I’d have a few ways to go. What do I say no to? I said I wasn’t going to make any more motion pictures. But will there still be motion pictures seven or eight years from now? The question remains open. “concluded the 60-year-old director.
The Movie Critic is set to begin filming this fall for a possible 2025 release. Meanwhile, for the most impatient of fans, Tarantino has just released a book about his cinephilia: Cinema Speculation, available at all good booksellers.
