Actress spent two years without working due to a series of issues, especially related to her exhaustion
Jennifer Lawrence was one of the most productive actresses in Hollywood in the early 2010s. Between 2011 and 2014, she participated in 12 films, mostly large productions such as X-Men: First ClassIt is Hunger Games.
However, it wasn’t long before J-Law reduced his professional activities. It got to the point where, between 2019 and 2021, she stopped acting altogether. Her list of participations, of course, was greatly reduced during this period – and even with her return to work, the pace has slowed down again since she had her first child in 2022.
Now 32 years old, the artist was convinced to resume her activities once and for all because of a film that will be released this Thursday (22) in Brazil: the comedy What time do I pick you up?which still brings in its cast names such as Andrew Feldman, Matthew Broderick, Laura Benanti, Natalie Morales, Scott MacArthur It is Ebon Moss-Bachrach. It is worth noting that Lawrence, in addition to being the protagonist, signs on as the producer of the work.
She herself revealed her enthusiasm for the film in an interview with Reuters (via G1). At the time, he said he didn’t want to take any work, of any kind, until he received the script for What time do I pick you up?.
“I didn’t want to tackle any genre. I didn’t want to work when I got this script and I read it and it was the funniest script I’ve ever read in my life. So I quickly changed my disposition and we were on set four months later.”
Jennifer Lawrence and What Time Do I Pick You Up?
Directed and co-scripted by Gene Stupnitsky, What time do I pick you up? tells the story of Maddie, a young and bankrupt app car driver who finds a curious possibility to change her life. The character, played by J-Law, finds an online ad for a wealthy couple looking for a woman to date their introverted and socially awkward son, Percy (Andrew Feldman), before he starts studying at college.
Interestingly, there is a hint of reality in this film. First – and especially – because the virtual ad actually existed, according to Stupnitsky. Second, Feldman – now 21 – was in college when he got the job offer. He even suspended his course at the renowned Harvard University, receiving support from professors to accept the role.
Discomfort with Hollywood
In other interviews, Jennifer Lawrence has made her discomfort with the Hollywood film industry clear. This essentially led the artist to take a break from her work, even though she was one of the highest paid actresses in the world at the time.
A vanity fair, for example, she stated that she was unable to employ the quality expected by herself in her last works before the hiatus. At the time, she went so far as to say that everyone had grown tired of her – including herself.
“I think I was just pleasing other people most of my life. I thought working would make nobody mad at me, like, ‘OK, I said I’m doing this movie, nobody’s disappointed.’ Then I felt like I had reached a point where people weren’t satisfied with just my existence. It left me shaken.”
In a way, excessive dedication to work also acted as a refuge for Lawrence. It was the only place where she wasn’t treated like a super-celebrity.
“The attention on me was so high and extreme that, in a bizarre way, the set became a great escape. There, everyone treats you normally. It’s not like you go into hair and makeup and people are like, ‘Oh my God.’ Even so, you are exhausted. Ultimately, I had to ask myself, ‘Am I taking this job just because I want to work the next day or because I want to make this movie?’
