Can you imagine anything more brutal than bringing an iconic character back to the Marvel Universe…only to kill him off! And yet, such is the fate of agent Maria Hill, played by Cobie Smulders, in the new production of Marvel Studios, Secret Invasion!
This major MCU character has not appeared since 2019’s Avengers: Endgame (except for a brief appearance in the animated series Marvel’s What if). His more or less unexpected return in Secret Invasion – since he doesn’t appear in the credits of the series – could therefore be a nice surprise for fans.
But they didn’t appreciate seeing Maria Hill die in this first episode, shot down by the Skrull Gravik disguised as Nick Fury during the attack on Moscow. A brutal ending that must have gone down well with the public, as evidenced by the many messages posted on social media shortly after the first episode aired:
