The actor is currently shooting his second film as a director.
After ‘A Star Is Born’, Bradley Cooper remains in the world of music for his next film as a director, ‘Maestro’. The film will review the biography of Leonard Bernstein, the legendary conductor who composed the music for ‘West Side Story’. Cooper himself takes the role of Bernstein, and at all ages, as we can see in the first images revealed by Netflix. Carey Mulligan will play his wife, Felicia Montealegre.
In the images we see the two actors in black and white images, at one point of a young Bernstein with his wife. Instead, the colored ones show only Cooper at a later stage than Bernstein. The characterization of him is very successful with his gray hair and wrinkles, which makes the actor from ‘The Alley of Lost Souls’ unrecognizable.
A legend in the world of musical theater, Bernstein was known for composing the music for ‘West Side Story,’ the 1957 Broadway show that spawned the 1961 hit movie, with Jerome Robbins Y Robert Wise in the direction and the recent new version directed by steven spielberg. He died in 1990 at the age of 72.
Not much is known about ‘Maestro’ yet, although it is scheduled for release in 2023. The film will review “the complex love story of Leonard and Felicia, a story that spans more than 30 years, from the moment they met in 1946 at a party and continues through two engagements, a marriage of 25 years and three children.”
Spielberg is one of the film’s producers, as is the filmmaker Martin Scorsese. The film was going to be was originally a project of Spielberg himself. However, after approaching Bradley Cooper for the lead role, he ended up handing her the direction.
According to Variety, production on the film began this month. However, it is a project that has been in talks for a long time. The first time we heard from him was in 2018, when the announcement was made that the actor from ‘The bright side of things’ was going to star in and direct the biopic about Bernstein. Almost two years later it was learned that the streaming giant was entering production. Cooper has been securing the rights from the Bernstein Estate and has been working very closely with the composer’s three sons throughout these years of pre-production.
In the film, Cooper and Mulligan are joined by maya hawke, Matt Boomer Y Jeremy Strong. The characters of the first two are unknown, while the last one is known to play the critic John Gruen.
