That’s right, Starz has finally started airing Season 7 of Outlander, its hit series adapted from Diana Gabaldon’s novels. These new episodes feature the 7th volume called Echoes of Distant Hearts (even though the writers took it out of the previous book because they couldn’t do it with season 6, which was cut short). We find our two heroes in the midst of the American Revolution, which pits them against their former homeland. The leader of the Fraser clan also crosses swords on the battlefield with his son, Ian, who has changed a lot.
Season 7 is supposed to be pretty faithful to the book, but there is a passage that won’t appear on screen as revealed TV line, based on a comment from one of the producers. In Volume 7, Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) take a moment to relax in the garden before the nurse asks her husband to … masturbate in front of her. Which he will give up for a while before letting himself into the game.
We’re not exactly sure why the writers chose not to keep this scene, but we remember her male interpreter’s comments in her recent autobiography. Referring to the abuse Jamie endured in Season 1 with Black Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies), Sam Hagan explained that he had a bad experience with his full-frontal scene. Thus, nudity in Outlander is placed at the center of the debate.
Outlander Season 7 is bound to have at least its share of olé olé scenes, as it’s part of the series’ DNA and Diana Gabaldoni’s novels. But it really won’t. As a reminder, new episodes are broadcast weekly on Netflix in the US+24.
