Abel regrets the inconclusive images in the Palmeiras defeat and asks Globo and VAR to define the camera angle

The Técnico do Verdão objected to the offers that generated controversy during the match against Bahia

Palmeiras was defeated by Bahia 1-0 on the night of this Wednesday (21), at the Arena Fonte Nova, in Salvador, for the eleventh round of the Brazilian championship. In a post-match press conference, coach Abel Ferreira lamented inconclusive visuals in relation to striker Artur’s final shot, in which the ball allegedly went into the opposition’s goal after goalkeeper Marcos Felipe missed. On this occasion, in the 45th minute of the first half, the VAR controlled the action, but didn’t validate Verdão’s goal.

– I hope there are no confusing images. I’d like to come here to talk to you and be absolutely sure if the ball went in and I didn’t, like it happened against Atlético-MG offside or not. The only thing I ask is that those in charge do like us, learn from mistakes to improve. I wish next time there was a clear picture of whether the ball went in or not,” said Abel Ferreira.

Furthermore, the Portuguese manager alluded to the move with which the Alviverde players asked for a penalty in the final moments of the match, claiming a possible touch on the opponent’s hand after Breno Lopes’ cross. The Verdão manager contested that Globo, the broadcaster of the match, did not broadcast the repeat offer. However, Abel said many offers in recent years “are against Palmeiras”, asking the VAR and the television network to better adjust the camera angle.

– There have been many offers in recent years, since I’ve been here, maybe many times against Palmeiras, or if I’m the one who sees it wrong. I would have liked to see in the last shot, when Breno Lopes was crossing, that Globo showed the replay, it didn’t happen, I don’t know why, it could be that the camera wasn’t there.

– Maybe it was nothing, but for all of us to be sure of the images, because the VAR is there to help, if it’s the Globe images that go to the VAR, who sit at the table and define the angle we should put the cameras, so in the end we can all value what we like, which is football – concluded Abel.

With the defeat, Palmeiras have 22 points in the standings, but remain in second place, one point behind Botafogo, who will play this round again this Thursday (22), against Cuiabá, away from home. If Flamengo wins its match, it will take over the assistant management of Alviverde. In the next round, this Sunday (25), Verdão receives Fogão at the Allianz Parque, in what could be a duel for leadership.
