Luc Besson case: the Court of Cassation confirms the dismissal

In May 2022, the Paris Court of Appeal rejected the case of actress Sand van Rooy. The latter accused director Luc Besson of rape.

After this decision, the actor and his lawyer Antoine Guiton filed a cassation appeal. A year later, a court of that jurisdiction rendered judgment as indicated French movie.

“On Wednesday, the Court of Cassation finally rejected the accusations of the Belgian-Dutch actor Sand van Rooy regarding the rape of Luc Besson. He did not satisfy the complaint filed by the latter about dismissal in favor of the film director. AFP. The actor responded to this decision on his Twitter: “The Court of Cassation decided not to accept my appeal, as a result of which the French courts once again refuse to consider the evidence in the case. I am continuing the case and I am going to the court to protect the European rights of human rights.she said.

For his part, Thierry Malebert, Luc Besson’s lawyer, spoke after the verdict: “This decision confirms the acquittal in favor of Luc Besson and confirms all the decisions of the last five years that found him innocent.”– said the lawyer.

“Therefore, this finally puts an end to this procedure, which began in 2018, during which Luc Besson was systematically dismissed by all the magistrates who tried the case. As a lawyer, I applaud this exemplary procedure that allowed the truth to emerge. that Luc Besson is innocent”Thierry Malebert concluded.

After the legal setback, Luc Besson will return to cinema with DogMan, his new feature film, which will hit theaters on September 27, 2023.
