The Academy of oscar changed the requirements for Best film category at the awards by 2025. According to the report, films released by 2024 must be shown in theaters after being open for another seven days in at least 10 of the 50 largest American cities.
Bill Kramer AND Janet YangAcademy officials explained the decision in a joint statement, noting that interest is “increasing the visibility of films around the world”.
“Our mission is to celebrate and honor the arts and sciences of cinema, and our hope is that the new rules will increase the exposure of films around the world, encouraging audiences to come to theaters. Based on conversations with various partners in the industry, we believe this decision benefits both artists and viewers,” the statement said.
