The Flash: Why are the Justice League heroes missing?

Like Civil War on the side of Marvel and the Avengers, The Flash has long been in the making as Justice League 1.5. A solo movie that would be on a scale that would allow several DC heroes to come and say hello and stay in the story for more or less as long as we can see “Smile”A comic based on a feature film.

After years of delays and other changes in directors and/or writers, The Flash hit our screens on June 14th. And the fastest man in the world is not the only hero on the screen. An appearance, we should also add, a little less surprising (but nothing can be that much) of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman in the first act – and that’s when we thought Shazam 2 ended her adventures in DC. One that officially bid farewell to the role of Amazon last December.

Then we imagine we’ll see the rest of the Justice League arriving. Either in a broken sequence (as Jason ‘Aquaman’ Momoa comes around the post-credits scene) or for a second (and final) reunion, two years after the hopes sparked by a longer version of Zack Snyder’s film. But no. Henry Cavill and Ray Fisher are not included, although their respective Superman and Cyborg characters are mentioned. However, the reason for their absence is clear.

He turns and leaves

When The Flash (finally) begins filming in February 2019, Henry Cavill is definitely not the DCEU’s Superman anymore. And the release of Shazam!, a few months later, confirms this with a final scene in which the Man of Steel appears…but not his face. At the time, the English actor was more focused on The Witcher, and Andy Muschietti’s film couldn’t count on him under contract.

But Dwayne Johnson is going to hit hard with his Black Adam and manages to bring Henry Cavill back in a post-credits scene that marks his return to the DC Universe at the start of the 2022 school year. “Integrating her in her final scene alongside Supergirl, Wonder Woman and Michael Keaton’s Batman clearly has the future in mind. not always.

A few weeks later, the decision to reboot the DC Universe is made. And Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot are among the first to commission James Gunn and Peter Safran for a new strategy. Fearing that the feature film is promising viewers something that won’t happen, Andy Muschietti and the producers decide to revisit their copy. And so Superman disappeared from the story again.

Is the cyborg broken?

As for Ray Fisher, the problem is both simpler and more complex. July 1, 2020 Cyborg Interpreter openly accuses Joss Whedon of acting “Disgusting, offensive, unprofessional and unacceptable” on the set of Justice League when he took over from a grieving Zack Snyder and finished the film in his place.

The actor also blames the producers Geoff Johns and John Berg, who, according to them, would support these actions. And also points the finger at how his character was one of the big losers in the theatrical cut. The appearance, originating as his role in The Flash, which was originally significant, was recently reduced to a mere cameo.

While several individuals have supported his version of the facts (Gal Gadot and Jason Momoa leading the way), Ray Fisher has since been in open conflict with Warner. According to him, the former president of the studio, Walter Hamada, tried to interfere with the investigation of Joss Whedon’s conduct entrusted to an outside company. And he shook her hand during the announcement of the movie about a black Superman.

Ray Fisher has said that he no longer wants to work in a film produced by Walter Hamada. However, the latter is credited for The Flash, as he was involved with it throughout its gestation, even if it was released after he left the studio. Hence the absence of the actor and the cyborg, which is only mentioned in the margins of the dialogue.

It remains to be seen whether James Gunn and Peter Safran will allow him to return, while a Cyborg project has yet to be announced.
