Tonight on TV: Alain Delon in Monument of Italian Cinema, rated 4.1/5

By chance and thanks to his excellent physique, Alain Delon joins the world of cinema without special training. Yves Allegre offers him his first role at the age of 22 in the movie “When a Woman Interferes”. Three years later, the budding actor rose to stardom thanks to Plein soleil, an adaptation of RenĂ© Clement’s novel Monsieur Ripley.

The following year, Alain Delon received one of his best roles thanks to director Luchino Visconti. In this way, he lends his qualities to the romantic and silent hero of Rocco and his brothers. Set in the tone of Italian neorealism, the film is set in post-war Italy and follows a family’s emigration from the south to the north of the country, where southern traditions collide with the realities of urban life.

Winner of the Special Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival, this tragic family mural also benefits from a grand staging, as well as a masterful performance by Annie Girardot, who finds here her first major film role.
