“The Boys” premiered the first three episodes of its third season this Friday (3) and in less than 24 hours reached a maximum score on Rotten Tomatoes. Critically acclaimed, the season was one of the most anticipated by fans as it promised the debut of Jensen Ackles, known for the “Supernatural” series, as Soldier Boy.
In an interview with collidershow creator Eric Kripke, who is also the mastermind behind the comics, revealed when and why he chose the actor to play the character.
“We were just talking, we talked maybe twice a year. He was telling me that he was free from Supernatural and that he was starting to look around, and I was telling him, “I’m having a hard time picking this role,” of a WWII veteran character.
“We were looking for this archetype, [tipo] John Wayne or Robert Mitchum. So it didn’t occur to me to think of Jensen because he plays younger … until I was on the phone with him and I thought, ‘Wait a minute, are you interested in this role? Can I send you this scene? ‘”
Even according to the writer, despite the good conversation and Ackles accepted the invitation, it wasn’t an easy process for them, as there were other people queuing up for tests. That is, the famous Dean Winchester had to “fight” for the role. “Nothing is easy. There were many producers and executives who didn’t know him. So he really had to follow the rhythm ”.
Kripke and Ackles had previously worked together on “Supernatural”, where the professional worked as a screenwriter on a few episodes. So, knowing the actor from “other carnivals”, he took the opportunity to give his private opinion on Ackles’ work and couldn’t contain his praise of him.
“The thing I always say about Jensen is his really impressive versatility after putting him in every imaginable scene over the time we’ve worked together. He can do it all. It can be fun. He can be scary, he can be emotional, he can be a believable action star. He can do all things, and this is a pretty rare package. ”
“I would say I have Jensen as a new character, but that I already knew in terms of abilities and, as I said, [com] the crayons they already had in their box – they made it easier, in a weird way. It was like a homecoming, like a family reunion to write something I knew it could do. ”
Following the strategy of other platforms, Amazon streaming did not release the episodes of the show all at once. With this in mind, the separate in another publication the exact dates for the arrival of each episode of “The Boys” on Prime Video.
