On the verge of retiring from football, Joel Carli was the great protagonist of the last training session before the match against Magallanes-CHL, for Sul-Americana. The Argentine received affection from his team mates in a very relaxed atmosphere. After all, his contract with the club expires on Friday and he will no longer be on the pitch every day.
However, the expectation is that the 36-year-old defender will take on a role in developing promising young players in the grassroots categories, in the integration process of the “Botafogo Way” project. This will be confirmed soon.
Carli is scheduled for the big game this Thursday at 9:00 pm at the Nilton Santos. He should stay on the bench and maybe enter the final stretch of the duel, depending on how things go. Botafogo must beat eliminated Magallanes to secure a place in Group A.
Before the ball rolls, it has to be honored by the scoreboard and of course it will be applauded by the fans. The Argentine defender arrived at Glorioso in 2016 and, after a brief farewell, returned in 2021. In addition to almost 200 games with the Alvinegra shirt, Carli scored the historic goal that gave the club the Rio title in the final de Janeiro 2017 against Vasco.
