After the huge success of Pixar’s The Incredibles, which won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature in 2005, Tom Cruise expressed his desire to work with director Brad Bird. In 2011, this animation genius filmed his first live-action footage for the fourth installment of the Mission: Impossible film saga, titled Ghost Protocol.
The filmmaker immediately gets his paw on the franchise, deciding to specifically develop secondary roles or even mention the secret organization of the syndicate, which will take on all its meaning in the sequels. In addition, he turns the spy Ethan Hunt, a superhero of sorts, who flirts with death during some impressive and dizzying scenes.
After shooting in Vancouver, Prague, Moscow and even Mumbai, Brad Bird is setting his camera in Dubai to film the flagship series. Ghost protocol – one that allowed Tom Cruise to reconnect with the peaks, both literally and figuratively. With bare hands (but tightly bound by cables), the actor navigates the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest tower, about ten stories high, towering over 820 meters! The sequence was shot in three days without the slightest stunt or trick.
With his double hat as headliner and producer, Tom Cruise himself pulls off this incredible feat worthy of a top-notch stuntman. The promotion of the film is also focused on this performance, rather than the return of Simon Pegg to the cast, or even the arrival of Jeremy Renner, whose studio at the time planned to create a new hero of the saga.
Winner of the Saturn Award for Best Thriller, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol Thus setting the standard that subsequent operations would strive to surpass, especially those involving Christopher McQuarrie. The latter, who works here as a script doctor, actually took over as a director from the fifth part and does not stop surprising the audience!
