What is it about?
Skull Island will be part of Legendary Entertainment’s MonsterVerse franchise, which began in 2014 with Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla movie. The animated series follows a crew on a desert island that must escape the prehistoric monsters that inhabit it, including King Kong.
Why do kids want to see this?
After Jurassic World: The Cretaceous Colo., another franchise featuring huge monsters is expanding its universe through a Netflix animated series. No dinosaurs this time (though…) but the most famous giant ape in the history of cinema: King Kong.
Viewers who grew up in the 90s will definitely remember the animated series Godzilla (an adaptation of the Roland Emmerich film) when discovering this series Skull Island, while the youngest will want to watch the program to discover the famous creature whose name they are not told. Of course, it is not unknown.
AlloCiné editors recommend this series for ages 14 and up (Netflix classifies it as 16+).
What could be the problem for them?
- A monster that’s certainly in the good guys camp, but still a martial – not to mention warrior – vision of King Kong, as are his ferocious battles against other giant monsters that appear in the program.
- The presence of guns, man eating creatures… without the temptation to go crazy, Skull Island offers the most violent scenes. Moreover, with so much realism that we almost have the impression that we are witnessing all these bloody murders, which are never seen directly on the screen!
- A serious tone emanates from the program, just like the films that this animated series is a sequel to. That’s why if you want to introduce your children to the discovery of giant monsters, I recommend it Cretaceous ColoTrollhunters or Kippo and the Age of Animals.
The Skull Island series is now available on Netflix.
