Excited by the latest results from the W14, Mercedes are targeting Red Bull and looking for a competitive weekend.
In preparation for the Austrian GP, George Russell showed positivity. Since the Monaco GP, the Mercedes team has been using a new concept, with the sidepods. The W14B proved to be faster and all feedback indicates that the team has finally managed to resolve the issues that have hampered the development of the car.
In the press conference, the British driver said that they are getting closer to Red Bull and he is happy with the path that the team is starting to follow:
“From Barcelona to Canada we improved and Max wasn’t too far away. This also promises an interesting weekend. The team is doing a great job to close the gap to Red Bull. If you look at the averages of all the teams, it seems that they have come close to us, even if they still have some margin.”
Indeed, the momentum from Mercedes is encouraging. In Spain they brought two drivers to the podium and in Canada Lewis Hamilton returned to the top three, but Ferrari also took a step forward in their development and this was clear in the last race, despite some mistakes.
Over the weekend we’ll see if the fight for the Silver Arrows will be more against Red Bull or Ferrari.
